In a recent photoshoot with the talented model Rosina Shakirova (@rosinashakirova), amidst a blooming flower field, I had the pleasure of experimenting with the Viltrox 75mm F1.2 Pro lens mounted on the Fujifilm X-S10. Despite the X-S10's release in 2020, its compatibility with this lens proves to be a winning combination for portrait photography.

The fusion of Fujifilm X-S10 and Viltrox 75mm F1.2 Pro lens brings forth notable features and user considerations. Notably, the X-S10 excels in color reproduction, especially evident with the classic chrome film simulation. Employing my favored settings—Classic chrome. Color +3, highlight-1, shadow 0, Sharpness +1, NR (-2), Color Chrome Effect: weak, Color Chrome Blue: weak. White balance: 6300k—enhances the springtime ambiance impeccably.
Equally impressive is the optical performance of the Viltrox 75mm F1.2 Pro lens. Despite the X-S10's 26-megapixel sensor, the lens delivers remarkable sharpness and image quality, capturing intricate details with finesse. Moreover, its wide aperture of F1.2 allows for stunning background separation, lending depth and dimension to portraits, especially in challenging lighting conditions.
While the autofocus performance of this combination is generally dependable, it slightly lags behind other offerings in Fujifilm's lineup. While it adeptly manages most scenarios, occasional delays may occur, particularly in tracking the subject's eyes. However, adjusting the AF-C custom settings to Tracking Sensitivity: +4 and Speed Tracking Sensitivity: +1 significantly improves eye tracking, enhancing its capability for various portrait scenarios.
The combination of the Fujifilm X-S10 and the Viltrox 75mm F1.2 Pro lens excels in creating stunning background separation, enhancing the subject's prominence against their surroundings. With the lens's wide aperture of F1.2, it effortlessly achieves depth even in direct sunlight, allowing for captivating portraits with rich bokeh. Moreover, utilizing the electronic shutter capability of the X-S10 enables shooting at incredibly high shutter speeds of 1/25600s or 1/20000s without the need for a neutral density (ND) filter. This feature empowers photographers to capture crisp and detailed shots, even in brightly lit conditions, while retaining full creative control over exposure settings.
One practical consideration for users to bear in mind is the X-S10's battery consumption, especially when shooting extensive video footage. Given its utilization of previous battery versions, having spare batteries on hand is advisable to avoid interruptions during prolonged shoots.
